The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC) is an advocacy, education and community-building organization that works to end discrimination on the basis of gender identity and expression. MTPC provides a consistent voice to key decision makers about the lives of transgender youth, adults, and their families. The aim of MTPC’s programming is to improve the lives of the Massachusetts transgender youth, adults, and their families by 1) organizing and empowering transgender people to advocate for themselves; 2) developing leadership within transgender communities through community education and opportunities; 3) educating the public, the media, and institutions about issues facing transgender communities; 4) increasing the awareness of policy makers about the needs of transgender communities; and 5) advocating for equal access through policy changes at the institutional, state, and local levels.
Greater Boston PFLAG is a group of parents, families, friends, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people. Their mission is to help change attitudes and create an environment of understanding so that their LGBTQ family members and friends can live in a world that is safe and inclusive. They accomplish this through support, education, and advocacy. Greater Boston PFLAG offers monthly group support meetings, confidential telephone support and information, parent-to-parent Support, publications, safe Schools Program teacher and student training, speakers bureau, community forums and evening programs, Greater Boston PFLAG Scholarship Program, PTA/PTO training and parent programs, and gay straight alliance assistance.
Open mics are held EVERY 2nd Thursday at Bella Luna and the MIlky Way (284 Amory St, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130) and are followed by a dance party!
This open mic prides itself on being the ONLY monthly open mic DEDICATED to the LGBTQI community of Color and its allies. They welcome ANYONE to step up to the mic! They offer a non-discriminating, non-pretentious, non-elitist platform for one and all to express themselves! At each mic free food is available for open mic attendees. Additionally , here is a short film screening at the beginning and a feature at the end.
